Using resources is a personal choice...

We could all use some help and support at times. How and when we choose to find that support is personal - particularly when it involves our children. There are many government based, non-profit, and for-profit organizations and businesses available and ready to provide support to parents and thier children with special needs, myself included. Research your resources & options, and create a support system that suits you. Always remember YOU are in charge. Your support team should fit your and your child's needs, your resource availability, and your current knowledge base. As a start, I am listing some resources below. ONLINE COLLEGE GUIDE FOR DEAF AND HARD-OF-HEARING STUDENTS
We’re helping students in their pre-college journey by ranking colleges and programs across the country using aggregated publicly available data. And, we’re doing it without any advertising or affiliate relationships with schools. This ensures zero bias of our results.
This Online Guide for Deaf and hard of Hearing Students, helps young adults do their research and seek out schools that fully accommodate their needs. It goes over challenges and accommodations in more detail, and also reviews the top colleges and scholarships available for deaf and hard-of-hearing students. Finally, it provides additional resources that may be helpful.

Birth Injury Center was founded in 2021 by a group of people with an in-depth understanding of birth injuries. Our team includes birth-injury lawyers, healthcare providers who are well-practiced in birth injuries and prenatal complications, and family members of people with cerebral palsy and autism. Our primary goal is to educate the public and help them identify if their family has fallen victim to negligence by an institution, and to create and distribute educational content and provide access to legal representation for these highly sensitive situations. The mission of the Office of Exceptional Children is to ensure that students with disabilities develop intellectually, physically, emotionally, and vocationally through the provision of an appropriate individualized education program in the least restrictive environment.

North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority

We help North Carolina pay for education. We are the State agency that promotes access to education by administering financial aid and savings programs, informing students and families about paying for education, teaching educators about financial aid administration, and advocating for resources to support students.

Early Intervention
North Carolina Early Intervention Branch

The North Carolina Early Intervention Branch (NCEI) is a part of the N.C. Division of Public Health. It is the lead agency for the N.C. Infant-Toddler Program (ITP). The Infant-Toddler Program provides supports and services for families and their children, birth to three who have special needs. Research shows that this time period is critical. It offers a window of opportunity to make a positive difference in how a child develops and learns. Sixteen Children's Developmental Services Agencies (CDSAs) across North Carolina work with local service providers to help families help their children succeed.

Dyslexia
Decoding Dyslexia North Carolina

The Decoding Dyslexia movement began in 2011 when twelve New Jersey parents took the same train ride home from a learning disabilities luncheon in New York City and discovered they all had the same story of struggles to get services for their children in the public school system. They formed a grassroots movement called Decoding Dyslexia New Jersey and the mission was to raise dyslexia awareness in their state, to provide resources to families, and to implement policy change. The had success and created a guide for other states to form their own chapter.

Specialized Recreation Services provides lower staff-to-participant ratios and experienced staff, to best provide a variety of recreational opportunities for individuals to improve their leisure skills and gain new experiences.

Wake County Children and Family Services

The programs within our Children and Family Services provide support to families with children. These services help first-time moms prepare for birth, provides nurse home visits, and additional support through a child’s first five years. We offer continued support to school-age children and their families'.experiences. This includes information and referral for those living with, caring for, and concerned about a child with special health care needs.

Also home to NC's Parent Training and Information Center and provide a variety of free services to parents of children with disabilities including: individual assistance with education issues, workshops, lending library, newsletters, statewide toll-free Parent Info Line and more.

Legal Aid of North Carolina

Legal Aid of North Carolina (LANC) is a statewide, nonprofit law firm that provides free legal services in civil matters to low-income people to ensure equal access to justice and to remove barriers to economic opportunity. Education is a priority legal area for LANC attorneys, who represent students and parents in all 100 counties in North Carolina. LANC attorneys also assist families with legal problems affecting basic human needs, such as family, health, housing, employment, and income.
